relief operations day2

nauna yung day3 because i was just so overwhelmed with how my day went. ENTA people going to our area, relief operations still ongoing in Ateneo, etc.

i missed the actual day 2 of the Ateneo relief operations last Monday because i had to finish FOUR PAPERS FOR THEOLOGY. Our prof didn't announce any move of deadline (the papers were to be passed by email) so i assumed that we had to pass that day. tapos biglang sabi nung tapos ko na lahat na the deadline was wednesday nalang. at least natapos ko na.

pero while i was doing the last paper, natauhan ako. MY PAPER IS ABOUT SOCIAL JUSTICE, I'M WRITING ABOUT IT, WHEN THE BETTER THING TO DO WAS TO ACTUALLY DO IT IN THE COVERED COURTS. nainis ako. so sabi ko talaga sa paper yung reflection ko na theo is always emphasizing na we should actively live out our religion and stuff. not be passive but be pro-active. nainis ako na i was being passive by doing the paper. i also wrote about people defying social structures and economic statuses, dahil mapa mahirap o mayaman andun sa covcourts doing the same thing. it didn't matter whether you owned a huge multi-billion company, when you volunteer, you have to pack relief goods or sort clothes, or measure rice into packs, just like the rest. nainis talaga ako sa paper na yun. What does Ateneo education emphasize? good grades? or MAGIS? (some people may argue with the concept of MAGIS, but you get the point. the values that our school teaches us.) would i rather do this paper to try to get a high grade for theology? or be MEN & WOMEN FOR OTHERS? (forgive me for being like this.)

at some point, i wanted to drop all my acads and go to the covcourts. naisip ko din kasi yung mga tao na nasalanta ng bagyo. those who lost their books, readings, laptops. how are they going to get through school?? how will they catch up on the latest readings, or continue making papers if they lost everything? ang unfair ko naman ata na nakakagawa ako, tapos sila. wala nang mga gamit. :(

i made bawi and went to volunteer at the covered courts last Tuesday. we were supposed to go to the area that day, but we were told that deployments to Industrial Valley Complex left early in the morning. so we decided to just assign ourselves around the covcourts and volunteer for the rest of the day.

i got assigned at the clothing area. initially, i did not want this because i knew my allergies were acting up. but after hearing about how fun it was, mixing and matching tops for mommies, daddies and 4 kiddies, i gave it a try. basically, what you had to put into one platic were: 1 set of clothes for dad (top, bottom, undie), 1 set for mom (top, bottom, undie), 2 sets for the 2 daughters, and 2 sets for the 2 sons. i assumed that some family had teenage daughters and sons, so I got some from the women's and men's pile. haha.

after awhile, my allergies were acting up, so i went with ate vir and edith to the smocket. then we decided to eat at kanin club. super random. :) when we came back, we did some rice measuring. hahaha. go TEAM ENTA!!!

edith and i wanted to get deployed BADLY. so when danica called us because she was getting deployed, we came with her. WOOH! we were so excited. HAHA. we were sent to RED CROSS RIZAL CHAPTER. :)

RED CROSS' track board... the reports and cases, the places na nasalanta ng bagyo.

what did we do?

this:
we made IDs. for the volunteers. please don't judge me, but Ateneo deployed us to make IDs? we felt that we could've done so much more. yung idea lang na, ang dami nang nagugutom at naghihintay ng relief goods, talagang inuna namin yung mga IDs. isa pang point is that, ilan kami inassign sa ID making? 12. enough to make a part of an assembly line, enough to make around 30 bags of clothings, enough to pack 50 food packages. i am entitled to my own opinions. pero if making the IDs were a priority, then let's go. we made one for ourselves din. :) we ARE after all VOLUNTEERS for the RED CROSS. on one hand, i think din RED CROSS had too many volunteers that day, sobrang sikip na ng headquarters kaya siguro ID nalang pinagawa sa amin.

danica, edith, steve, jerold and angelo at the back of the pickup!
we were all happy we got IDs. bwahaha.

basically, that was the highlight of my day in the relief operations. clothing and IDs. haha.
